Russian reconnaissance drones have recently adopted evasive algorithms to avoid Ukrainian interceptor drones. This development was observed in the skies over Ukraine, where reconnaissance drones such as the ZALA 421 have been performing evasive maneuvers upon detecting threats. The operators of Ukraine’s Lastivka unit from the 11th Brigade of the National Guard recently experienced this as one of their FPV interceptors approached a Russian drone that abruptly changed its course and altitude. Serhii Sternenko released a video documenting this event, indicating that the Russian drones may be using a rear-view camera to detect threats. However, there is no confirmed evidence of such technology on the drones.
The evolution of drone warfare in Ukraine is highlighted by Russian attempts to enhance their UAV defenses. Reports, including those from Militarnyi, suggest that Russian operators have been experimenting with adding radio jammers to their UAVs. These jammers can interfere with the signal transmissions of approaching Ukrainian FPV drones, thereby protecting the Russian reconnaissance units. Additionally, Russian drones have been observed with camouflage against the ground and Ukrainian insignias to mislead Ukrainian forces.
