Germany Commits to Supply Ukraine with 20 Marder Infantry Vehicles
The German government has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply Ukraine with 20 more Marder infantry fighting vehicles as part of its military assistance. The order was placed in March 2024, with delivery scheduled for the same year. Rheinmetall has already transferred a three-digit number of Marder IFVs to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is now providing vehicles from the German Army that are undergoing major repairs. The company’s facilities in Unterluess and Kassel are responsible for the work. The recently ordered Marder 1A3 variant is equipped with integrated laser range finders for precise target elimination.
The official website of Rheinmetall announced the order, but the German company did not disclose the exact value of the order. However, it mentioned the “mid-double-digit million Euro range” as the order’s value. The news was reported by Militarnyi. The same article also stated that in September 2023, Rheinmetall would be supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces with an additional 40 Marder 1A3 IFVs – 20 of them after repair by Rheinmetall and 20 from the German Army inventory. The report on the German government’s website in December 2023 confirmed that Germany had transferred a total of 120 Marder 1A3 IFVs to Ukraine.
