Ukraine launches international campaign to raise $10 billion for defense.
Ukraine has launched an international fundraising campaign in order to raise $10 billion from abroad for the purchase of weapons made in Ukraine. The Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine made this announcement, stating that the goal is to accumulate the funds by 2024 to purchase weapons from Ukrainian enterprises as part of military assistance. The first decision to purchase weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces was made on April 17 by the Danish government, which allocated $28.5 million for the purchase. Ukrainian weapons manufacturers are capable of producing the type of weapons needed by the Ukrainian military, and foreign orders are expected to include ammunition, drones, and missile parts. The Minister emphasized the importance of defense contracts for Ukraine’s economy.
Denmark and other countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Latvia, are expected to be customers of Ukrainian military products. These countries will finance the purchase of drones through the so-called Drone Coalition. The details of the foreign orders have not been disclosed, but Ukraine has already attracted about $400 million from the United Kingdom and Latvia, as well as $213 million from the Netherlands. The goal of purchasing weapons from Ukrainian producers is to strengthen and increase domestic Ukrainian production. Ukrainian representatives have proposed a cooperation model where 50% of the financing would go to Ukrainian manufacturers.
