Rheinmetall تفتتح مصنع دفاع في مدينة ميدياس الرومانية
The German concern Rheinmetall has opened a defense plant in the Romanian city of Mediaș, which will provide support to Ukraine’s military vehicles. Rheinmetall has acquired a controlling stake of 72.5% in the Romanian vehicle manufacturer Automecanica Medias, now operating under the name Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL. The plant is expected to have an annual sales potential of approximately €300 million, with orders estimated to be in the triple-digit million euro range by 2024. Rheinmetall has been cooperating with Automecanica since 2022 and expects the plant to maintain the operational readiness of Western-built combat vehicles in Ukraine.
The new plant in Romania will also provide faster and more secure supply chains for NATO forces on the eastern flank. In addition to trucks, Rheinmetall presented the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle at the opening, which is being offered for the Romanian infantry fighting vehicle procurement program. Furthermore, Rheinmetall plans to establish another joint venture in Ukraine specializing in air defense systems.
