تايوان تبدأ تدريبات عسكرية لمدة خمسة أيام لصد هجمات من جمهورية الصين الشعبية
Taiwan has commenced a five-day military exercise aimed at simulating repelling attacks from the People’s Republic of China. The drills have been designed to closely resemble actual combat and have eliminated scripted firepower displays in favor of intensified nighttime exercises and practicing severed command line operations. On July 22, soldiers of the Republic of China practiced laying mines to delay enemy troops from capturing the capital at the mouth of the Tamsui River leading to Taipei. In addition, reservists gathered in Taoyuan to receive war orders, and civilian vans were used to transport supplies. The drills will also include setting up contingency command lines and dispersing Chinese forces attempting to land on Taiwan’s western coastline. Live fire exercises will only occur on Taiwan’s outlying islands, while the Wan’an civil defense drills will be conducted simultaneously.
Reuters reported on May 2024 that the U.S. Department of State accused China of military provocations relating to large-scale military exercises conducted by the People’s Liberation Army in the South China Sea around Taiwan. More than 100 aircraft and numerous naval ships surrounded Taiwan, with Beijing expressing dissatisfaction with the new government in Taipei. China has accused Lai of seeking independence and destabilizing the region.
