On the outskirts of Simferopol, an explosion of unknown origin occurred near a local airfield. This event was captured on video and circulated online via local Telegram channels around 9:00 a.m. The explosion is visually comparable to the detonation of rocket fuel and might be linked to the defeat of anti-aircraft missile systems. The Ukrainian Geoint project, Cyberboroshno, geolocated the explosion near the village of Kurhanne, within the Simferopol district. Analysts from the project suggest that the explosion may have been due to an S-400 missile system taking a firing position in the area, which had previously ceased operations following repeated missile and UAV attacks.
The smoke cloud and accompanying visuals from the explosion have similarities with previous footage showing the detonation of warheads from S-300 or S-400 missile systems. A related incident from August displayed the destruction of Russian S-400 Triumf missile launchers in Crimea, which was recorded by a Ukrainian reconnaissance drone.
