Russian missiles and drones have been successfully shot down by the HAWK air defense system, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that one of their units has already intercepted and destroyed 14 missiles and 40 Shahed LMs. The commander of the HAWK unit confirmed that one of the intercepted missiles was a modern Russian Kalibr cruise missile. The Kalibr cruise missiles are long-range missiles that were first introduced in the 1990s and are launched from Russian submarines or ships during strikes against Ukraine. The Kh-59 cruise missile, which is designed for tactical aviation, has also been intercepted by Ukrainian air defense systems. The effectiveness of the Ukrainian air defense has been enhanced with the addition of the IRIS-T, Patriot, NASAMS, and HAWK systems. Spain is actively supporting Ukraine by transferring HAWK systems and training Ukrainian forces with the goal of improving their air defense capabilities.
