The Ministry of Defense and ICEYE, the global leader in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite operations, have announced plans to strengthen cooperation in remote sensing of the Earth. ICEYE, who owns the largest constellation of SAR satellites, will provide radar reconnaissance of Ukraine’s territory for the purpose of ensuring security and defense in the face of armed aggression. The memorandum also outlines plans for ICEYE and Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense to enhance Ukraine’s space defense capabilities and provide SAR expertise to support defense activities.

In August 2022, the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation purchased a satellite from ICEYE for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This purchase provided the Ministry of Defense with full access to the satellite’s capabilities, as well as images from the entire constellation of satellites. Ukrainian specialists have utilized this access to capture over 4,000 images of enemy targets, including airfields, air defense positions, oil depots, missile and ammunition depots, and naval bases. The SAR technology allows for high-resolution imaging through clouds, fog, and smoke, regardless of the time of day or light level. ICEYE’s satellites can collect images and data multiple times a day, providing reliable information for decision-making by the Ukrainian military command.
