Drones Attack Factories in Tatarstan: Ukrainian Operation Reported

On Tuesday, April 2, drones attacked factories in the cities of Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, Russian Federation. The Russian media released videos and photos of the attack. It is reported that explosions occurred at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone near Yelabuga at around 6 a.m. local time. Among the affected enterprises were those producing Russian military drones, including Shahed drones. This is the first attack on Russian Tatarstan since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The head of the region, Rustam Minnikhanov, confirmed the attacks but stated that there was no significant damage or disruption to the technological processes of the enterprises, although some premises were damaged.

Photos and videos from eyewitnesses show a damaged building in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, causing injuries to six people. Ukrainian intelligence sources later claimed responsibility, stating that it was an operation conducted by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The target of the attack was the factory assembling Shahed drones, causing significant damage to production facilities. It is worth noting that Russia is involved in the production of Iranian drones through a network of enterprises, with JSC SEZ PPT Alabuga and Alabuga Machine Building Company being the main contractors.
